About Treedom Villas and Vardos

A HOLIDAY PARADISE FILLED WITH GYPSY MAGIC AND ADVENTURE

Our Treehouse Villa and Vardos are situated on the stunning coast of the Garden Route South Africa, in the little town of Wilderness. The magic of Treedom is the overall feeling of happiness and relaxation found in a place still untouched by the stress of city life. It is the perfect blend of luxury and boho-chic living. A fantasy destination made real.

DEBBIE NORTJE
OWNER, FOUNDER AND MD

7 years ago, the idea of Treedom was born, since then it has been nourished, cared for and built up by the fantastic Debbie Nortje.

Hospitality experience

Both a chef, African tour guide and VIP Events Director, her experience with people, travel and culture has fueled this project, allowing it to blossom into the wonder it is today.

Infectious personality

Her infectious attitude and friendly demeanor combined with her hands-on approach to everything make her an excellent host, friend and owner. “Just listen for the laughter, then you will find me, followed by hugs.” Says Debbie.

Joy and happiness

The world Debbie has created at Treedom, is just her heart being put on show in the way she does best. An immersive, engaging and enchanting experience, designed to do one thing - spread joy and happiness.

MARC NORTJE
HEAD OF OPERATIONS

Marc's dedication to the Treedom project is rivalled only by his wife Debbie, but hand in hand they have built something remarkable, and genuinely memorable.

Operations experience

Hailing from the Cape Town film and television industry, Marc Nortje has 22 years of experience working with colourful people, logistics and problem solving. Playing the role of Operations Manager, his expertise is vital in the running of Treedom.

Outgoing personality

With his outgoing personality, kind and friendly mannerisms, any requests are met with a smile and a willingness to go above and beyond. “Whether you’re Nicholas Cage or my neighbour, you can be assured that we are all equal and will always be treated as such.”

Adventure

Happiest in his boat cruising the river, lagoon and lake, he will whisk you off to join him, if given half a chance. Adventure is waiting and he has boats and 4x4 buggies to share with you.

ELLEN AND BERNARD
THE FOLKS

The magic of Treedom

Marc’s mom Ellen and her late husband Bernard were among the first people to see the magic that Treedom would hold, and promptly sold their houses in Hout Bay and joined forces with Debbie and Marc and moved to Wilderness where they are avid members in the growing and vibrant community.

A gift of love

A project such as Treedom takes more than just creativity and a dream. The magic of Treedom comes from the infectious energy of Debbie and Marc, the landscape, the curated luxury environment, the nostalgic charm and the guests. But the quiet and underlying reason for Treedom, lies in the fact that it was a gift of love

A perfect foundation

When creating a space like Treedom, the foundations mean the most. Not just the physical ones, but the intent. When Ellen and Bernard joined Debbie and Marc, they set the standard of generosity, openness and love that makes Treedom what it is today and will continue to be in the future.

AN ECO-FRIENDLY DESTINATION
OUR GOAL IS TO ENSURE MINIMAL IMPACT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

Treedom is an eco-friendly destination and our facilities are intended to have a minimal impact on the environment. We are already off the grid with our water. We harvest rainwater and recycle our effluent water through our 4-tank water treatment plant which uses living organisms to purify our water, which is then used to flush our toilets and water our gardens. All our cleaning products are eco-friendly and our guest amenities are locally produce produced from aloe vera and safe for the environment.

At Treedom we care about what we put into our bodies and we therefore grow our own. We have a organic veggie garden so when you visit you can shop for what you need on-site with peace of mind knowing that what you are eating is pesticide free. We collect chicken manure from our own chickens and horse manure from neighbouring farms which adds to the richness of our already amazing soil. We recycle all our rubbish and all organic waste goes into our compost heap to feed our soil.
